The Wits Africa-China Reporting Project participated in the South Africa-China Women's Forum, celebrating the role of women in the nations. The Forum was held by the Chinese Consulate General in Johannesburg, and the African Chinese Women Association. The Forum was attended by government and political party officials, scholars, businesswomen, media and other key stakeholders.
The forum received keynotes from the Consul General of China in Johannesburg, Tang Zhongdong who remarked on the significant role of the celebration and commemoration of Women's Day in South Africa, remembering the women's march of 1956.
“In the face of challenges, they [women] have consistently exhibited an ability to evolve and innovate, contributing significantly to their respective communities and economies,” said the Consul General of China in Johannesburg, Tang Zhongdong.
The Women's Forum received further key remarks from Speaker of the Ekurhuleni Metro Municipality, Nthabiseng Tshivenga, Chairperson of the African Chinese Women Association, Jianling Zhao, and the ANC General Manager, Fébé Potgieter. Thereafter, engagement with the forum attendees was held under two panel discussions.
